The Story:
John Albert Lucas (1860-1945) was the eldest son of Haliburton pioneers Captain John Lucas and wife Eliza (nee Hare). He married Annie Boundy, from Cobourg, in 1888 and took over the Lucas family's hotel, the Haliburton House, later renamed the Grand Central Hotel. Lucas was a prominent Haliburton citizen. Aside from proprietorship of the village's largest hotel, he later sold insurance, served as a notary public, and was a Dysart councilor from 1916-1927. A staunch conservative, Orangeman, and Freemason, he is shown here in regalia of the local Masonic fraternity, North Entrance Lodge No. 463, Haliburton, which he joined in its inaugural year 1903.
