Babies, Babies, Babies! : Rural Maternity and the Red Cross Outpost Nurse
Object Number:
1992.08.22
Object Name:
Gown, Hospital
Kit Connection:
Gowns like this one and the one following, were worn at the delivery by the nurse, the doctor (if present), and the mother. The gown protected the nurse or doctor's clothing and promoted a more sanitary environment. For the mother, the gown helped to protect her modesty and aided in ease of delivery.

This gown was probably worn by the doctor or the nurse as the front pocket would have been useful to hold equipment while the wearer was busy with the delivery.
