Description:
1921 S.S. No. 9 Stanhope Daily Register for the school year May to November. There was no school in December through April.
There is one page per month with the daily attendance of each pupil recorded. No explanation is given for absences. The last page of the book is an monthly attendance summary for each student and statistics on possible vs actual days of attendance for the school.
On the back cover is written Mrs. W. J. Coulter's and Pearl Harrison's address. There is a post office cancellation stamp indicating that the register had been mailed.
Notes:
The teacher was Clarence C. Miller whose address is given as Bath, Ontario. He was appointed May 7th 1921. In October 1921, Pearl.A. Harrison of Carnarvon became the teacher. The school year started on May 11, 1921 and ended November 26th, 1921.
School holidays were:
Friday, June 3 - King's Birthday
Friday, July 1 - Dominion Day
Friday, July 8 - School Picnic
Monday July 18 to Friday July 29 - Two weeks Summer Vacation
Monday, September 5 - Labor Day
Monday, November 7 - Thanksgiving Day.
The first page of the register includes the contents of The Act for the Protection of Insectivorous and other Birds. There is an instruction to the teachers to ensure that their pupils understand the provisions of the Act, namely that they should not kill birds, especially in the spring.
The second page covers the requirements for religious instruction in the schools, along with the text of the opening and closing prayer.
